forgetful

Dress from H&M   Jacket from Mendocino   Necklace from F21   Boots from Steve Madden

If my head wasn't attached to my shoulders, I'd probably forget it home.
I have no idea where my mind has been lately, but the more I have to remember, the more I forget.

Saturday morning, I forgot whether I was going to bed or waking up.
Saturday night, when I saw people in costumes I thought they were nutso..
I forgot it was Halloween weekend.

I forgot my gloves in a store...
I forgot where that store was.

I also forgot to switch my camera setting to compensate for the lighting...
So without further ado, please enjoy my oompa loompa inspired photoshoot...

come as you aren’t

We had a blast dressing up for a Halloween party Friday night. Poor young girl who had to see me standing outside the car. Her mom wasn't too pleased with me. Side note, can you guys tell how obsessed I am with the Vampire Diaries? I even attempted the make up for that creepy eye thing that goes on up on their face when they get hungry. Nom nom.

But apart from looking like a vampire for a night, I don't think it would be my ideal lifestyle choice. The fangs are slightly too large for my mouth, and involuntary drooling happens people. As well, I'm a huge fan of garlic, I love me a comfy cushy bed - none of that coffin shtuff, I frolic in the sunlight almost daily, I can definitely check myself out in the mirror and lastly, to be completely honest, I'm completely freaked out at the sight of blood.

How's your Halloween weekend going?

insomnia

It's exactly 1:00am right now peeps. Way past my bedtime, yet sleep is the last thing on my mind. Maybe it's because I took a short three hour nap, or maybe it's because tomorrow is the first Halloween party of the season and I'm {peeing in my pants} excited. I love Halloween. SO much. It's up there on the list of my favorite holidays. Joining it are April Fools' Day, Super Bowl Sunday, Black Friday and New Years Eve {all valid reasons to have a day, or two, off if you ask me!}

So what might I be doing to cure this insomnia? First on the pre-halloween to do list: picking a lipstick to match my costume. Thank the camera gods for self-timers because my photographer is sound asleep {lucky dude}.

All while eating some ba-na-na-s {ba na na s} - accompanied by nutella. Hands down the yummiest midnight snack in the history of ever.

&& looking up recipes to make these. The end.

lindley, meet my friends

Boots from Steve Madden   Jeans from F21   Shirt from H&M   Blazer from FCUK   Watch from Michael Kors (Gift)

Rarely do I splurge on clothes and accessories. Way back when, I remember saving up all my money to buy a juicy hoody (oh yeah, cue giggles) for $200 and would hand over the money to the big lady behind the cash register like it was burning a hole in my wallet. Now a days, let's just say said lady would have to play a little game of tug of war with me.

That being said, there is one thing my amazing mommy taught me about the rules of shopping, and it's that quality trumps quantity almost every single time (oh boy - in how many other instances of life does this come in handy!). Which is why when I saw these Steve Madden Lindley boots, my heart melted and I knew that regardless of the price I had to have them. The soft leather, the amazing sole (perfect for Canadian winters), the gorgeous red zipper. So there I have it, quality, these babies better last a life time, or at least you know, five years or so. It also helps that I feel pretty bad ass in em'

the good, the bad & the karma

Jeans/Poncho/Cuff from F21   Turtleneck from Joe Fresh   Boots from Steve Madden

The Good Luck
- Betting on ponies this weekend && winning eight whole dollars.  That's big you guys! I don't win, ever, not even at rock-paper-scissors.
- At a random mall, in a random town two hours away, finding the most perfect fall boots in the history of ever. Can't wait to introduce them to you guys.
- Going to Dave & Busters (an arcade) and winning 2800 tickets, though entirely boyfriends doing, I think that trumps the eight dollars. Only 200 more tickets and we can get a toaster over. Or a pillow pet, I'm still undecided.

The Bad Luck
- Playing deal or no deal, still at Dave & Busters, and picking the suitcase with the most mula first.
- Coming second last in Football picks for the week, only because last place didn't get his picks in on time.

The Karma
- Cheating at a game of pool. It was perfect, they weren't looking, I switched the white ball for a solid. Then they proceeded to kick our buts. We walked out of there with our tails between our legs.

'ugly' pretty

Skirt/Sweater from F21   Tights from HUE   Scarf/Belt from H&M   Shoes from Lucky Brand   Ring from Aunt

Anyone remember way back? That time when kids were meanie pants to each other & compliments would go something like this: "You're funny ... Funny looking!" or "You're pretty ... Pretty ugly". Sticks and stones.

My preteen self had a broken heart. Yet, somehow 'pretty ugly' has become a trend that I'm love love loving as a 20-something gall.

'Ugly Pretty' nail polishes are my favorite for Fall. Ogre Green? Mud Brown? Concrete Grey? Yes, yes and yes please!

Yesterday I painted my nails OPI's A-Taupe the Space Needle && asked the boyfriend what he thought. "It looks a little like a muddy swamp" . . . He sure knows how to flatter this girl.

a girls' night out

Dress from F21   Tights from HUE   Shoes from Lucky Brand  Bangles from H&M
My entire day was spent writing an essay so I decided to use my quoting skills to define girls' night out as stated so by Urban Dictionary. Totally legit, promise!

"A planned event, usually held at a cheesy Irish pub or dance club, where groups of females dress provocatively, flirt insessantly, dance badly, and accept free drinks from desparate single men."

& while that sounds like a hoot of a night, Urban Dictionary, I think it's time to add a new definition to your list, for all us classy ladies out there.
It should go something like this..

"A planned event, usually held at a coffee house/lounge/bubble tea bar, where groups of females dress to the nines, ignore all boys (it's GIRLS night after all), dance a little, and accept absolutely no free drinks from desperate single men."

I had so much fun with my pretty ladies tonight!
Check out the a-m-azing Halloween decor
(I was tempted to snatch that spider on the way out)
&& the delicious pineapple slush
Nom nom

hakuna matata

Dress: Local Boutique  Shirt: FCUK  Belt: Winners  Necklace: Mexx

While it may be pourin' rain
While the essays and midterms may keep piling on
While there might be two baskets full of lotsa laundry

There are two words that will solve all of your (& my) problems...

"It means no worries for the rest of your days..
It's our problem-free philosophy
Hakuna Matata!"

While I don't plan on slurping up any slimy (yet satisfying!) colorful bugs for dinner...
Lion King will continue to be one of the most inspirational films of my childhood

Boyfriend and I found the DVD at his parents house over the weekend..
Can you guess what we'll be doing tonight?
Promise ya - it's PG rated!
No gutter minds.

fall(ing) in love

Some amateur photography from yours truly :) Thanksgiving Hike 2011

Dear Fall, I love you.

I was always a summer girl
My birthday is in August,
the beach is my second home
...and I enjoy nothing more than patio season!

But this year, my heart did a complete 360...
All of a sudden I started getting that warm fuzzy feeling in my stomach
when I imagined the marshmellows melting into my cup of hot chocolate
the cozy knit sweaters
&& the crisp air
(I've even started enjoying the sound of a football game lingering in the house!)

This weekend was Thanksgiving (the Canadian version)
So boyfriend and I headed up to the cottage to take in as much of fall as possible
...and of course as much food as possible
Which may explain why I need to ask for a new pair of jeans, a size bigger, for Christmas

Fall is definitely the buffet table in my life
I can't stop myself from saying no to:
mashed taters, turkey, duck, apple pie, pumpkin pie
yum!

Is anyone else completely obsessed with this season? Please share what fall is to you, so I can sit at my computer screen and drool all over my keyboard.

first time jitters

I got a haircut (yes, technically it`s the same length, but look at all dem layers!)

I have to fess up you guys, I have major butterflies in my stomach when I even think about anyone going near my hair with scissors.

I`ve had some pretty horrid experiences -
like do you ever notice how they always cut off WAY too much
when you come in saying..
"Just a trim please!"
Or when the hairdresser decides to give you a rat tail? (no? was that just me?)

After that, I decided to chop it all off (a-la mrs. beckham)
SO I rocked the short look, but eventually it grew out.
And I refused to cut it. Stubborn girl I am.

Now, a year later, I finally realized it was time to learn to trust again
&& I'm SO happy with the cut!
First time jitters no more!

I can't wait to play around with it
&& now that there is actually some shape, I don't look so much like Morticia Adams

maki me one while you’re at it

Leggings & Sweater - F21, Shirt - American Eagle, Flats - Tory Burch, Watch - Michael Kors

I have a bone to pick with sushi restaurants...
Don't get me wrong, I am super thankful to the Japanese culture!
Thank you SO MUCH for being impatient and not waiting for your fish to cook :P
(I joke about the impatient part, but not the cook part, raw fish rocks ma socks!)

However, why all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants try to trick our tummies
I will never understand :(
There is NO need for so much rice surrounding the yummy fillings.
I would like to have salmon - with a side of rice
Not rice with a side of salmon!

It's like all-you-can-eat restaurants that serve you cold water...
so that your stomach fills up quicker
OR regular restaurants not providing water unless you ask...
so that you spend more $$$ and keep nom nomming away

As sushi lovers we need to unite!
Say no to over-rice(ing)!
Viva la sushi!
