the velveteen rabbit

Velvet Blazer Thrifted   Sweater from Joe Fresh   Fur Stole from H&M   Boots from Steve Madden   Bag from Theit

The holiday season is pretty magical if you ask me. Let me take you back in time for just a few seconds. Eleven years back in time to be exact, the time when I fell head over heels for the Velveteen Rabbit. I wished and I hoped and I prayed that my toys would come to life - though by that point I was more of a realist than a dreamer. In the back of my mind, I knew that there was no way my dear stuffed pup patches would ever blink his pretty brown eyes at me. And now this part you have to take my word for because it might sound a teensy bit coocoo. The day after reading that ah-mazing book, was the day I found out my parents friends dog had puppies. Seven puppies to be exact. All black, except the last one, she was white as snow. She was also mine. All mine. That's magic I tell yah.

Eleven years later, I decided to re-read that book - just a few days ago - and then went for a walk to the local thrift store. I found that gorgeous velvet blazer up there (for 5 bucks!). Now if you didn't believe in holiday season magic before, you probably do now don't cha?

My toy that came to life (she just had her haircut - what a little mouse)

highlights

Shirt from Target   Skirt from F21   Tights from HUE   Shoes from Winners
Sequins + Sparkles | Everybody, Everywhere

Maybe I've been exposed to too much sports, or perhaps my creativity levels are nearing zero, but I felt it would be appropriate to write today's post as highlights. Though live streaming will not be available nor will there be any food ads, full weekend coverage will be provided.

Thursday night boyfriend and I reached a tentative deal, we had sushi for dinner. Third straight victory for me. He hopes to rebound against the division leader with Arby's for next week.

Full coverage of the Christmas season has begun with countdown to kick-off, this Friday at 9pm. First holiday party (hat themed) went into double overtime.

Pie fans from across Toronto gathered at my parents house, the local farmers market being the proud sponsor.

Tune in next week for more news and headlines.

clumsy is an understatement

Sweater from J Crew   Boots from Winners  Skirt from F21   Belt from Gap   Bow Earrings from Kate Spade
Needless to say, I'm not graceful by any means. These burgundy tights are not only fun to wear, they are kind of life savers. Nothing covers purple bruises better than colored legwear. Over the years my family and friends have learned that "ow" is part of my everyday vocabulary. "Ow, I tripped" - "Ow, I fell down the stairs" - "Ow, I walked into the table". All totally normal and expected. I've learned that I should not try to jump over anything, that I need to hold on to the guardrail at all times (even up the stairs) and to always check if the glass door is closed before going inside. Oh and to buy furniture with rounded edges, no sharp corners for this gall. Us clumsy people have it hard.

impulsive & spontaneous

{1} Pre-roadtrip breakfast
{2} Gorgeous Rainbow Bridge to Niagara Falls, NY
{3} Great grandma's vintage ring
{4} Ben & Jerry's smoothie is my shopping companion

Boyfriend is fairly impulsive by nature, I on the other hand (being a Virgo) have a planner for every part of my life. I think that's why we click, he keeps me on my toes and I keep him grounded. As a surprise, I decided to reverse our roles this weekend, and just once take a walk in his shoes. A simple "road trip this weekend?" text and I had all of a sudden transformed into this spontaneous gall. Let me tell you, that never (ever) happens.

So we got our bums out of bed super early on Saturday and headed to Niagara Falls,  to visit a friend, do some Christmas shopping and get away from the dreaded boring daily routine. After 15 hours, we made our way back across the border...with a belly full of delicious duck (if anyone lives in Buffalo - The Blue Monk is the way to go)....& impossible to pronounce German beers...a car full of Christmas presents...and memories to last us until we can get away again.

OH. And unfortunately a little of this happened...

forget me not

Jeans from F21   Shirt from Joe Fresh   Sweater/Belt from H&M   Wristlet from Coach   Boots from Steve Madden   Necklace from Betsey Johnson
The best 'pee in your pants' funny moment of the week award goes to last night, around 9pm. The regular date night routine goes like so: I wait outside in the lobby while boyfriend gets the car from the garage - he 'picks' me up (oh how cheese are we) - and off we go. Except yesterday, he didn't pick me up. I watched his car as it came out of the garage, dutifully put on it's blinkers and turned right out of our condo. At first, I thought I was seeing things until I realized that same car was now trying to do an awkward u-turn. He forgot me!

I was laughing so hard, that tears were rolling down my cheeks, as I did that weird bending down thing and holding my stomach. Poor boyfriend has gotten so used to me having night class and got into the routine of coming to pick me up around 9pm. University, I blame you for not offering the courses I need at regular human hours.

optimism at its finest

Sweater/Boots from Winners   Leggings from HUE   Shirt from Joe Fresh   Necklace from Swarovski
There was absolutely nothing that could wipe a smile off my face today. Not the heavy downpour that decided to come down on the city in the middle of my highway exam, not the huge coffee stain on my brand new sweater, not falling flat on my face in our condo lobby, not even the dreaded monday night discrete math lecture.

Today I am one optimistic chick.

I kicked that highway driving exam's BUM. Proving to myself that I'm not a terrible driver, just a little bit of a paranoid fool.

updo me

Dress from H&M   Shoes from Guess   Ring from H&M
I am a HUGE fan of birthday parties. Especially surprise birthday parties. Going to sound like a huge sap, but there is no better feeling than seeing someone cry from happiness (downside: weeping occurs on both sides, so waterproof mascara is my best friend). That pretty much sums up our la la lovely Friday night. Full of balloons, cake, a candy bar, delicious food, family & friends, and of course a very shocked birthday gall.

And what surprise party is complete without dancing! Oh boy was I glad my hair was up. After the night was over, and I was nursing my poor feet back to health, my hair was still in tip top shape. A few bobby pins, some hairspray, and even a night of dancing my bum off didn't cause any damage. Lesson learned, updo's are a definite do! Them ladies on the red carpet sure know what they're doing!

PS. Completely unrelated, but does anyone else feel like they get a complete leg workout when trying to pee in heels?

bacio

Cords/Vest from F21   Shirt from H&M   Shoes from Winners

Am I the only one who is too lazy to throw out wrappers from my chocolates, and instead end up sticking them in my purse? No? Good! Today I decided to clear out said wrappers (they were getting sticky and kind of smelly) and found a few from my favorite chocolates EVER. I can't stress that enough, Bacio chocolates are like little pieces of heaven individually wrapped. But that's not even the best part. Bacio in Italian means 'kiss' and each of these babies comes with it's own quote (in 5 different languages mind you...they keep it classy). Each quote has to do with Love. Duh.

Here are a few I found to be extra fun:
(or as much fun as something taken from the bottomless pit that is my purse can be!)

"Women are meant to be loved, not understood" - A real gem don't you think?
"Doubt thou the stars are fire...But never doubt my love" Deep, real deep.
"Love me when I deserve it least, as that is when I'll need it most"

dream house hunting

Sweater/Necklace from Winners   Tights from F21   Boots from Steve Madden   Jacket from AE   Bag from Theit

Everybody, Everywear: Colored Tights

Ever sat in front of your gorgeous bay window, sipping some tea/coffee/hot chocolate, enjoying the fantastic view from your living room window and noticed a couple of creepers, peeking into your house, taking photos, and making monkey "OOH AHH" faces? Hate to break it to you, but that might or might not have been boyfriend & I this weekend.

One of our favorite date nights goes something like this: get in the car and drive to the most expensive, ritzy, and magnificent areas of Toronto,  proceed to spend $7 on a cup of coffee, then march up and down the streets admiring the real estate and crossing our fingers that one day we'll get lucky and win the lottery. Or that eventually the speedy gonzalez housing market here slows down even a little for us to catch up.

But we're not hopeless dreamers, we hold our heads up, but always keep our nose at a friendly level.

beauty bit

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lip-gloss in Active Mauve & Essie in Angora Cardi
I went a little mauve crazy on my last trip to the drugstore. Kind of like those old ladies that need their earings to match their necklace, which of course has to match their bracelet..yeah like that. Except I needed my nails and my lips and my cheeks to match (still trying to find a mauve blush - any recommendations pretty ladies?). Anyhoo, these two products did not fail me. Look at that warm, soothing and elegant nail color! I just want to slap some on my nails and then cuddle with it. No? Too far?

that sweet spot

 Shirt & Sweater from Joe Fresh   Jeans from Hollister   Shoes from H&M   Necklace {handmade present}
You know that perfect spot on your mans shoulder, when your head hits it, you magically fall asleep? That sweet spot. I'm a night owl, and boyfriend is usually asleep by the time I catch up on my readings and blogs. So even though I can't bother him with late night talks, I always know that I can climb in bed and snuggle into that comfy spot on his shoulder, wrap his arm around me and drift off into sleep. Yes, so it may hurt my neck after a while, but damn, it's better than any sleeping pill/aid out there girls. So warm, so safe & instead of counting sheep I can count his heartbeats.
