hovering

Shirt from F21   Jeggings from Winners   Flats from Browns   Sunglasses from H&M

Bikini season is just around the corner and my body, hidden by layers of winter clothes is no where near ready to be re-introduced into the world. This is why since the beginning of March I was on a kind of health kick. Though while Yoga, and Zumba and other ass-kicking activities have left me feeling re-energized, they've also left me feeling like a cripple.

Getting out of bed in the morning is definitely a procedure to avoid my knees from buckling under me. But the hardest part has been using public washrooms. Hovering is just not an option, my leg muscles refuse to let me. The only choices I'm left with is holding it, or using an insane amount of paper.

I'm hopeful that this is only temporary. A few more squats to go, and I'll be a hovering queen.

my little dolly

Rest in peace my little doll. You were my everything - my angel, my best friend. You were there for me when the rest of the world turned their back and I could always count on you.

How do you say goodbye to someone who is so special? How I wish I could hold you and smother you with tummy rubs. But, all I have left to hold on to are the memories we had together and I will cherish them for the rest of my life.

I hope there are lots of stuffed toys, tennis balls, treats and pine-cones up there sweetie. Oh, and of course tons of cats for you to bark at. Just remember, you will always have a special place in my heart.

#FEBphotoaday

I admit, there were a few times that I cheated. Like took three days worth of photos in one. Who can blame a girl? Weekends hold no time for photo-taking. Overall though, this was incredibly fun and something to remember each day by. Fingers crossed I can keep this up for March. Maybe even May. Okay now I'm just pushing my luck.

honesty, undoubtedly the best policy

Blouse & Pants from Old Navy  Boots from Winners  Jacket from Aritzia

When bloggers are on hiatus, it usually means they are incredibly busy with exciting things like traveling and wedding plans and new babies - or not as exciting but just as justified - studying and working. I however, have no such reasons for being absent for a week. Has it really been that long?

Since honesty is, undoubtedly, the best policy....I have to fess up. Every free minute I had this week was spent reading The Hunger Games. I snuck in reading during off time at work, I read on the way home. I read before, during and after dinner. I read in the tub, on the couch, while doing laundry and of course in bed till the wee hours of the night. I have to say, now that I'm done the trilogy I wish I hadn't read it so fast. Now I'm  limmited to obsessing over the movie trailer and trying to patiently wait until March.

all you need is love - but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt

Blazer from F21  Blouse from Kenzie  Pants from Parasuco  Boots from Steve Madden  Sunglasses from H&M

Pink + Red | Everybody, Everywear

One February 13th, some years ago, I found myself in a chocolate store. Naturally of course. As I'm searching through the boxes, two young guys are furiously - almost - yelling at the sales associate. "What do you mean you don't have the low fat ones? How could they sell out? I can't buy regular chocolate... I have to protect my investment!" Needless to say I wasn't sure if I should laugh, or cry, or kick him. Instead I kept my fingers crossed for the poor gall.

Happy Valentines Day lovely ladies and gents! May you never receive low fat chocolate (unless that's your thing..I'm not judging)

take care ...

... of your hair!

You guys asked, so here it is. My hair care routine. In no way am I a hair connoisseur, though secretly I wish I was. If it was possible, I'd probably be a hairdresser as a hobby. But I know never to say never.

In the shower I'm loving...
1: Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner - some seriously amazing stuff this is, and it's cheap!
2: Pantene Beautiful Lengths Replenishing Mask - holy grail product, a little goes a long way
3: The Body Shop Banana Conditioner - great for everyday
4: The Body Shop Banana Shampoo - super gentle on the hair
5: Yes to Carrots Pampering Conditioner - smells heavenly & paraben free!
6: Yes to Carrots Nourishing Shampoo - leaves hair soft and manageable, also paraben free!

After the shower I'm loving...
7: Macadamia Healing Oil Spray - instantly absorbs into hair for extra moisture, shine and protection
8: DermOrganic Argan Oil Leave-In Treatment - just as amazing (maybe more) as the above & MUCH cheaper

When using heat I'm loving...
9: Got2B Guardian Angel - I know this says 'flat iron' but it works perfectly for holding curls
10: TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray - by far my favorite, not greasy and smells awesome
11: CHI Iron Guard - pricey, does a great job, but easy to over use

For tools I'm loving...
12: Conair Infiniti Curling Wand - eliminates frizz and creates great waves
13: Conair 1 and 1/2 Barrel - perfect for big & bouncy curls, what you'll see me use 90% of the time
14: Rusk w8less Hair Dryer - incredibly lightweight and really fast drying time
15: T3 Flat Iron - one of the best flat irons I've tried, and doubles as a curler when traveling

16: In Shower Wide Tooth Comb - great for evenly distributing conditioner without breaking the hair
17: Flat Bottom Clip - use this to hold a bun when sleeping, prevents hair from being pulled by an elastic
18: Clips - sectioning hair when drying or curling
19: Big Paddle Brush - for everyday brushing needs, and perfect for blow drying straight
20: Boar Bristle Round Brush - easier on the hair than plastic and definitely boosts shine!

if you can't convince 'em, confuse 'em

Sweater from J.Crew  Jeans from A&F  Boots from Local Boutique  Scarf/Earings from Aldo  Watch from Fossil

This past week the animals round' here have been very confused. The spring like weather has made squirrels hurry up their mating, and I would know...oh the perks of living behind a ravine. Some of the geese decided not to migrate at all this winter, and instead took up residence in the parking lot.

But the animals are not the only ones confused by the unexpected warmth, my closet is having a pretty hard time too. Blacks, that are usually staples during this time of year, have been pushed to the back and neglected, while the greys and nudes have slowly made their way forward.

Though you haven't convinced me yet weather, only left me slightly confused. I know you still have some snow up your sleeve. So for now, me and my closet are going to keep our guard up. At least for another month. Mister groundhog did see his shadow after all.

weekend uniform

Boots from Jeffrey Campbell  Skinny Pants from Parasuco  Blouse from BCBG  Jewelry from F21  Clutch from UO

Hi my name is Katya, and I am a repeat offender. Yes, I've worn these black pants pretty much all week. They did manage to get a wash somewhere in between, though I had never been so thankful for the invention of a dryer before. When something works, why change it? At least that's what I've been telling myself.

Mini confessional aside, these pants have become part of my uniform for going out. January was a month of birthdays overload, and every weekend we were either dancing in a local club or bar hopping downtown. That's when the uniform of black skinny pants and a cute blouse was born. That and killer boots. Can't forget the killer boots. My wallet may be shedding a tear, but my feet are as happy as ever.

loft lovin'

Black Skinny Pants from Parasuco  Lace Shirt & Pumps from Winners   Earrings from Joe Fresh

If you check my TV history, you'd see there is one channel I tend to gravitate to daily. Home and Garden Television. Oh boy, nothing makes me more excited than real estate. Whether they are building it, tearing it down, buying, selling, renting, you name it - I'm slightly unhealthily obsessed.

But there is one aspect of real estate that makes my heart tingle and that's lofts. I have been dreaming of living in a loft for as long as I can remember. The open space, the incredible amount of lighting, the character, oh and can't forget the decorating opportunities.

Sadly, around my University, there is nothing even remotely close to a loft. While suburban living is just dandy, and I know eventually we'll return here to raise a familly, it's nothing compared to city living. Less than a year to go until I graduate, we pack our bags as quickly as humanely possible and get our bums downtown.

The countdown begins.

ask me anything

Boots from Steve Madden  Leggings/Hat/Jacket/Gloves from Aritzia  Shirt/Sweater from H&M  Necklace from F21
I love to feel snowflakes on my nose,
even though my toes have froze.
I can no longer feel my limbs,
yet I still indulge my winter whims.

One of my favorite things to read when I first visit your lovely blogs is the FAQ section and I realized I didn't have one. Oh the horror. Help a gall out, ask me anything?

those other days

Parka from AE  Colored Skinnies from F21  Shirt from J.Crew  Boots are Canadian handmade Aboriginal mukluks

We all have 'those' days. You know, when slipping your feet into a pair of heels is out of the question...when putting contacts in is too much of a chore...when a skirt all of a sudden looks more like a torture chamber than an acceptable article of clothing...

So please, criticize the critters on my feet all you'd like you judge-y eyes at the mall, because this is my 'other' day and I'm standing my ground.

itching

Jacket from Aritzia  Jeans & Hat & Scarf from F21  Olive Shirt from Kenzie  Booties from H&M

After a much needed week-atus I have been itching to post. Literally and figuratively speaking, my skin doesn't really get along well with dry winter air. How exciting, first post of 2012 - and only 7 days late - forgive me puhlease?

Boyfriend and I took the winter break to date the heck out of each other. We tasted new cuisines - if you haven't tried pupusas, you haven't lived, pinky promise they taste much better than they sound. Pigged out on lots of delicious deserts, cuddled by the fire/heater with our pillow pet, shopped, and to finish off went skating. A pretty successful ending to a great week, especially when I was the one holding boyfriend up on the ice. I found one sport-like-activity that I'm actually better at. Boo yah!
